In a heartwarming twist to an already powerful story, NASCAR champion Chase Elliott has stepped forward as a surprise major donor to United Way Worldwide’s “Rebuild 300” initiative — a massive effort aimed at reconstructing homes for families devastated by the recent Texas floods.
But what’s capturing hearts across the country isn’t just the donation — it’s a handwritten thank-you letter from a 9-year-old girl in the flood zone, now going viral for all the right reasons.
“Dear Mr. Chase, thank you for helping my mommy get our house back,” the note reads in bright crayon. “You are faster than the flood.”
A Champion Off the Track
Chase Elliott, known for his precision on the racetrack and massive fan base in the NASCAR world, has long stayed quiet about his off-track philanthropy.
This time, however, his involvement in United Way’s mission to rebuild 300 homes in Houston, Beaumont, and rural towns in East Texas is turning heads — and changing lives.
According to United Way officials, Elliott’s donation will directly support construction materials, volunteer training, and housing essentials for over 120 flood-displaced families, many of whom lost everything.
“We didn’t expect it. There was no press release, no big announcement. Just a transfer with the note: ‘For the families. Let’s build again.’ That’s all Chase wanted,” said a United Way spokesperson.
The Letter That Melted Millions
Days after the donation was confirmed, United Way shared a story from Jordyn M., a 9-year-old girl whose family lost their home in the floods.
When she found out a “race car driver” helped, she decided to write him a letter — complete with a sketch of a racecar with hearts on the tires.

Her message has since been shared millions of times online:
“We had to sleep in our car. I didn’t like it. But now they said we will have a new room and maybe a bed with stars on it. Thank you, Mr. Chase.”
Elliott reposted the letter on his social media, writing only:
“This is why.”
Fans were quick to respond with comments like:
“Legend on and off the track!”
“You’re not just racing cars — you’re racing hearts.”
The Rebuild 300 Initiative
The United Way Rebuild 300 campaign is one of the largest recovery projects since Hurricane Harvey, aiming to:
-
🏠 Rebuild 300 homes for flood victims, prioritizing families with children, elderly members, or disabled individuals
-
🛠️ Mobilize over 4,000 volunteers in partnership with local contractors
-
🧸 Provide emergency trauma care and counseling to children affected by the floods
-
🎒 Include full school supply kits and furniture in each rebuilt home
Chase Elliott’s contribution — reportedly in the seven-figure range — will fast-track the first 100 homes for completion before the start of the school year.
Quiet Hero, Loud Impact
Though Elliott is known for his focus and humility, fans are now calling for more recognition of his charitable work.
In fact, several fan-led petitions are circulating to nominate him for the NASCAR Humanitarian of the Year Award.
This isn’t his first act of kindness either. In previous years, Chase has:
-
Donated helmets to children’s cancer hospitals
-
Helped rebuild youth sports facilities in Georgia
-
Funded driver education programs for underserved teens
“He may race fast, but when it comes to giving, he moves with purpose and heart,” said one longtime fan.
