Country music star Blake Shelton is being hailed as a real-life hero after attempting to rescue a group of homeless dogs that were swept away in the deadly floodwaters currently devastating central Texas.

The emotional scene unfolded just outside of Cedar Creek, a small town southeast of Austin, where torrential rain caused a flash flood that submerged neighborhoods and left dozens stranded. Emergency responders were already stretched thin when bystanders spotted several stray dogs caught in the current, crying and clawing onto floating debris.

And then came Blake.

“I didn’t even recognize him at first,” said Samantha Ortiz, a local resident who witnessed the incident. “He just jumped out of his truck, kicked off his boots, and ran straight into the water. Everyone was yelling for him to stop — but he just kept going.”

A Country Star Turned First Responder

Shelton, who owns a nearby ranch and has been actively volunteering with local relief efforts, was reportedly on his way to deliver supplies when he spotted the terrified animals.

“He was yelling, ‘Come on, boy! Come here!’ to one of the dogs,” said EMT Jake Malden, who arrived moments later. “He almost lost his footing twice, but he didn’t stop.”

Shelton was able to reach a wooden pallet wedged against a fence, where two dogs — soaked, shaking, and moments from being swept away — clung for their lives. Using a rope from his truck, he tied himself off and secured the dogs, allowing rescue teams to pull them all to safety.

An Emotional Aftermath

The crowd watching the rescue broke into tears and applause as Shelton emerged from the water, drenched and breathless, cradling one of the dogs in his arms.

Video of the moment, captured by a bystander, has since gone viral. It shows the soaked singer whispering gently to the animals, “You’re okay now… I’ve got you.”

Later that evening, Shelton posted a photo of the rescued dogs—now wrapped in towels and sleeping in the back of his truck—with the caption:

“They didn’t have a voice out there. I just couldn’t leave them.”

Inspired by the rescue, Shelton announced he will be covering the medical costs for the two dogs he saved — now named “Whiskey” and “June” — and is working with Austin Animal Allies to match donations up to $100,000 to support animal rescue in flooded zones.
