It was chaos — sirens blaring, people shouting, helicopters hovering — the kind of scene where fear and confusion drown everything else.

But in the middle of that panic, one moment stunned even the most hardened rescue workers.

A rescue boat, weighed down with evacuees, had become lodged against a half-submerged guardrail in the middle of the Rio Plata River, the current too strong for the motor to break free.
